My latest collection arrivals...

Fluorit (Arnsdorf).JPG
 Description:
Pale violet fluorite octahedron from the Arnsdorf granite quarries, Königshainer Berge near Görlitz, Oberlausitz, Saxony. Although fluorites often occur in granite deposits (think of Strzegom/Poland), at this very location fluorite is a rarity. In the literature you´ll find marginal notes concerning little green or violet aggregates - not as good as the famous smoky quartzes from here. The shown crystal is part of a find some couple of years ago which developed a few single crystals and two or three matrix samples. Most of them were bought by the Bergakademie Freiberg.

Silber (Oberschlema).JPG

next update

Baryt (Streckewalde).JPG
 Description:
Yellow baryte crystals (up to 1 cm) on quartz from the Tiefer Blühend Glück Stolln mine, Streckewalde, Marienberg district, Erzgebirge, Saxony. In the last 5-10 years many old tunnels, mines and dumps in the Marienberg district have been prospected and re-discovered. Due to that fact there are now a lot of specimens from that district available, such as beautiful amethystes, fluorites or barytes. However, Streckewalde is a rather rare location, most of the "new" Marienberg specimens come from Vater Abraham mine or St. Johannes mine/Wolkenstein.

Grossular 1.JPG
 Description:
6 x 5 cm brown grossulare from Hohe Waid near Schriesheim, Odenwald, Baden-Württemberg. It´s not a beauty, however, but for a German locality this is a huge garnet crystal. Maybe there are more but I only know a single German place that gave bigger garnets: Irchenrieth near Weiden, Bavaria. By 1900 almandin crystals up to 20 cm in diameter were found in a pegmatite mine.

Andreas, thanks again for posting your interesting collection! My favourites from your recent posts are the quartz from Harz mountains, the yellow Baryte from Marienberg/Saxony, the Baryte from Müschede/Sauerland, the pyrite floater from Holzen quarry and the grossular from Schriesheim/Baden-Württemberg, which is really a giant for one from a German locality!

Please keep posting ... and thank you for the honour of mentioning the Ex Tobias Martin collection as a feature for your Dreislar specimen ;-)

Cheers!
