With Jussieu (UPMC), the Museum d'Histoire Naturelle (now in reorganisation) and the Ecole des Mines (now MINES ParisTech), Paris is lucky to count three world-class mineral collections, thanks to the tireless activity of René Just Haüy at the begin of the XIXth century.

The Musée de l'Ecole des Mines, superbly located in the historical Hôtel de Vendôme , on the south-eastern corner of the Jardin du Luxembourg (60, Bvd Saint Michel, 75006 Paris, Metro : Luxembourg, Bus 38), organizes this summer (already opened, closure date Aug. 27, 2010) a jubileum exhibition :"Notre Terre, ce Joyau" (Our Jewel Earth).

In addition to the still accesssible permanent collections, (recently enlarged by few specimens acquired during the last shows of Tucson and Sainte-Marie aux Mines), a number of exceptional samples are presented, many of them exhibited for the first time: Sculpted Siberian graphite and jades from J.P. Alibert (XIXth cent), last acquisitions of few great collectors (A. Giazotto, L. Thomas), ambers from the Museum of the Earth, Varsaw (Poland), sculpted minerals and gemstones from Idar-Oberstein (Firma Henn), etc.

Opening hours: MON, TUE,THU, FRI: 13.30-18.00, WED: 13.30-20.00, SAT:10.00-12.30 and 14.00-17.00. More details on the Internet site of the exhibition: https://www.notreterrecejoyau.net/
