I am trying to figure out what is the correct locality for the common velvety looking schorl from Santa Cruz Sonora Mexico. Is it the Guadalupe mine or the Guadalupana Mine.
Thanks Jean

Guadalupana Mine, Cerro de Chavito, Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico is the most common label, but this stuff comes from 10s of localities in the area. Look for large apatites, beryls, quartz and other accessory goodies.

Denis Belsher mined a lot of this stuff in the 80's from something he called the Blue Sky Prospect (after his business). I have his maps and know exactly where it is if you want to look sometime

Hello Peter,
I am a field collector of quartz (and associated minerals) from Sierra Vista, Az. Three years ago, i started exploring this area, to include the Guadalupana Mine, in search of its known minerals and had some good successes. Due to the drug wars, i have not returned for the last two years. The circumstances are looking better to return this winter.
If your offer is available to others, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to review the maps you referenced. I would be interested in knowing what i have observed in correlation to Mr. Belsher's mining efforts. Even more so, i would be interested in knowing the extent Mr. Belsher mapped the occurrences. I am wondering this because i have received conflicting information about the extent from different sources over the years. This is a recreation and not a job, so i am hoping to narrow down the prospect area.
In exchange, i have minerals specimens, waypoints, and field photos to share. Please let me know if you are interested.
Regards,
Russ
