There is an active one near my home in York County, Pennsylvania. Here anatase occurs with brookite in Cambrian Hapers phyllite at Kline's quarry, Hellam. The crystals are very small, too small in fact for me to photograph.

To quote Handbook of Mineralogy, Anthony et al., "In the USA, at many localites in Burke Co., North Carolina; Buckingham Co., Virginia; from Quincy, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts; at Placerville, Eldorado Co., California." I am sure there are others.

There are many anatase localities in the US. I have collected at several in Arkansas (3M quarry, Jones Mill, etc.) There are also many that may now be uncollectible. Mindat has references to many of them, so you might want to look there. I have references to others, which I hope to publish some day.

Let me know if you need more specific information.

Bob

Robert Cook in his column Connoisseur's Choice in Rocks & Mnerals, v. 77, #6, pp. 400-403, 2002 lists multiple occurrences in Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, California and Nevada.
