|
|
Introduction
A meeting of people interested in microminerals1 at the Bathurst Gemboree in April 2011, with representatives from the Australian states and New Zealand, discussed the desire for a newsletter on Australian microminerals. It was proposed to have a regular newsletter to circulate to people interested in microminerals. A subsequent meeting held during the Mineralogical Societies Seminar in Melbourne in June 2011 re-affirmed this interest.
Following these meetings, John Haupt (Min Soc Victoria) and Steve Sorrell (Min Soc Tasmania) met and prepared this proposal.
Name of the newsletter
Australian (Australian & New Zealand)2 Micromineral News (AMN).
Content
News and meeting details from the micromineral groups of the State Mineralogical Societies and kindred groups.
Short to medium length articles on microminerals
Of a mineral species or group
From a locality
How to articles (for micromounters)
Emphasis is to be given to colour photographs of the minerals
Classified Advertisements
To be limited to 40 words. No commercial advertising. Mineralogical Society events and activities are to be promoted.
Format
The newsletter is to be issued quarterly (March, June, September & December) The publication is to be only available in electronic format. Initially this will be as a PDF document and distributed by e-mail. It may be printed by the subscriber for personal use. Depending on the number of subscribers, the publication may be available by direct downloading from the Internet.
Subscriptions
The publication will be by subscription (at no cost). The Editor will establish and maintain a register of subscribers. This will contain the e-mail address, real name and contact number of each subscriber. This register shall be kept confidential.
Editor
The Editor will be responsible for editing the material forwarded for publication, laying out and distributing each issue. He shall have the right to reject articles which do not relate to microminerals or are deemed to be of insufficient quality. The Editor shall not be required to solicit articles, but will rely on micromineral people from the State Mineralogical Societies and others to contribute articles. The size and content of each issue will be determined by the articles and information sent to the Editor.
Copyright
People forwarding articles shall allow their content and images to be reproduced and ensure that they have agreement to use any information, photographs and images from other sources. They will be required to confirm same when submitting their article. Each issue will contain the following:- The information and images are the copyright of the author/photographer but may be used for non-commercial purposes with appropriate attribution.
Notes:
1. The term micromineral is used in the broadest sense. It relates to mineral specimens which are usually viewed through a microscope.
2. The newsletter “Micro-Scope”, published by the NZ Micro-mineral Club is recognized as fulfilling the same purpose of this publication, but on New Zealand microminerals. There may be scope to combine the two publications at a later time |

Great idea Steve! Please add me as a subscriber. I will send to you the details by pm
BTW, I moved this thread to the "Mineralogical Literature" section, I believe is more indicated considering that in fact you are creating a magazine (electronic ;-) |
