Another Sweet Home piece -- Galena specimens are hard to get, particularly with the distinctive Rhodo that makes clear where it is from.

SH-0001s.jpg
 Description:
Galena with Rhodochrosite and Quartz, with minor Sphalerite and Chalcopyrite
Sweet Home Mine, Alma District, Buckskin Gulch, Park County, Colorado, USA
163 x 95 x 42 mm

Gray Galena crystals to 8 mm, consisting of both octahedral and cuboctahedral habits are accented by brassy, iridescent Chalcopyrite to 4mm and lustrous black Sphalerite crystals to 7 mm. Clear needles of Quartz to 21 mm long and a single, transparent, cherry-red rhomb of Rhodochrosite measuring 9x6x6 mm provide accents. No damage.

Here are a few relatively new things from Inner Mongolia..

RG1211a.jpg
 Description:
Hedenbergite
Huanggangliang Iron Mine, Kèshíkèténg Qí, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
89.0 x 65.0 x 49.0 mm
Elongate, semi-lustrous, green tabular crystals of Hedenbergite are arranged in a semi-radiating structure, and are accented with white on the apical termination. Several clear and etched crystals of Calcite to 8 mm are perched on the Hedenbergite. A nice specimen from this prolific locality with no damage.

RG1211a.jpg

RG1212.jpg
 Description:
Fluorite
Huanggangliang Iron Mine, Kèshíkèténg Qí, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
85.0 x 67.0 x 42.0 mm
Semi-lustrous, deep-purple Flourite completely covers all sides of this specimen, which consists of parallel and intergrown plates of Fluorite matrix. The Fluorite habits range from sharp, individual cubes to 5 mm, and complex clusters of crystals to 20 mm comprised of many, slightly rounded cubes. A patch of earthy, pale-purple botryoidal material provides an accent. No damage.

RG1212.jpg

RG1214.jpg
 Description:
Rhodonite with Tremolite
Chaobuleng Mine, Dongwu Qí, Xilinguole, Inner Mongolia A. R., China
130.0 x 68.0 x 58.0 mm
Lustrous, flattened blades of Rhodonite form a large subparallel, seemingly doubly-terminated group measuring 130 x 55 x 36 mm, accompanied by a similar perpendicular group that is cleaved on the base. The Rhodonite is mostly opaque and light-pink colored, with portions that are gemmy and cherry-red. Although there is some damage, it is masked by the ragged crystal terminations.

RG1216a.jpg
 Description:
Ilvaite with Quartz
Huanggangliang Iron Mine, Kèshíkèténg Qí, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
127.0 x 100.0 x 63.0 mm
This bizarre-looking specimen consists of pale-green fibrous Hedenbergite coating a large dark Ilvaite crystal measuring 90 x 34 x 7 mm. The Ilvaite's flat termination is completely covered with slightly sceptered milky Quartz crystals oriented parallel to the Ilvaite's c-axis. A large, 75 x 15 mm, sceptered Quartz with a glassy cap is intergrown with a doubly-terminated Quartz, and these are accompanied by numerous other smaller sceptered Quartz.

A few more from Inner Mongolia....

RG1217a.jpg
 Description:
Quartz with Calcite
Huanggangliang Iron Mine, Kèshíkèténg Qí, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
105.0 x 105.0 x 67.0 mm
Lustrous, glassy, light-smoky Quartz crystals to 56 x 33 mm support a stack of thin, flattened, light-pink Calcite blades to 44 mm across. Several other minor stacks of similar light-pink Calcite, some partly cleaved, provide an accent. Minor chipping is visible with a 10x loupe on the termination of one of the Quartz, otherwise they are pristine. This is an excellent and unusual piece from this prolific Chinese locality.

According Berthold Ottens these Rhodonites are not from Huanggangliang area but from Chaobuleng Mine, Dongwu Qí, Xilinguole, Inner Mongolia A. R., China. As it is well known, Berthold is usually well informed... ;-) Do you want your caption modified?

BTW the brown material covering the Rhodonite is Tremolite, we analyzed it, so not doubts about this.

Hey Tobi,
I really like these combos from Xuebaoding, and this is the first I've seen with the gemmy little feldspars. I wish the Scheelite was a bit oranger, but I also really like it. Too bad this locality is not producing much at present.

Thanks Carles! I like the Scheelite also. Of the Huanggangliang pieces, my favorite are the Calcite (these are rare on matrix and this has 2 distinct habits), and the Lollingite/Fluorite combo. It is much better than the photos.

RHQTZ-08.jpg
 Description:
Quartz

Otome mining district, Miyamoto, Yamanashi Prefecture, Honshu, Japan

80.0 x 62.0 x 27.0 mm

This very large Quartz is from the late 1800s to early 1900s, when the original Japanese Quartz specimens were produced, from which Japan law twinning was initially described. This is an old classic. It is damaged on both on the lower-left side, on and just past the prismatic associate crystal's termination; and has a slight cleave on the back of the other termination (not seen from front). Still, this is a superbly aesthetic, dramatic piece from Japan with great provenance. Formerly in the Richard Hauck collection, the old Frederick Canfield label dates this to 1914, though it probably came to him in an older collection. Old Canfield labels are rare, as he bequeathed his entire mineral collection, plus a $50,000 endowment for its support and enlargement, to the Smithsonian Institution. Under conditions of the will, the Smithsonian may not disperse any of his specimens.
