Yesterday during several hours it was impossible to access to the Forum due to a server failure. FMF Forum is hosted at OLM, a hosting company based on Trumbull, Connecticut, USA that was affected by Sandy hurricane. Most of the city remained without electric power. OLM tried to maintain all its servers up, but it wasn't enough and the server has been down until this morning (Spanish time).
We understand that this problem has been due to an exceptional situation, but we have considered that the risk was widely notified and that OLM should have taken more measures. For this reason FMF will search better solutions in the future.
We are sorry about this problem and we hope that they are not repeated.
Regards

I have no loyalty to OLM and am not criticising the desire to have the most reliable platform possible for FMF. However, I would point out that there are few places in the world that are not vulnerable to huge natural disasters regardless of how much advance warning one gets. Earthquakes, tsunami, volcanic eruptions, storms and solar storms potentially interrupt "civilization" everywhere.
Sandy is a good example of why we should all have adequate stashes of the critical necessities of our lives, like medications whose production could be interrupted, and friends we can lean on when the disaster hits us directly. The storm is also a good lesson in why we it's good to have self-contained amusments to occupy our minds productively when cut off from the surrounding electronic media. Books and minerals are an excellent choice....they can even get us through an occasional 10-24 hours without FMF!

I completely agree with Peter's opinion.
The wulfenite is nice, thank you Peter

Nice wulfenite, Pete. At first I thought it was from the Red Cloud Mine. Just how large is the piece?

Biggest crystal is almost 2 cm. From what I've heard only a few with this color have come out

Curiously this was a topic about a server failure but we ended up talking about wulfenite which indeed is not bad at all.
