Greetings from Chiang Mai, Thailand. I was thrilled to recently discover this forum and I look forward to expanding my minimal knowledge by visiting regularly. Once I'm a little more familiar with the topics I'll be asking numerous questions, but for the time being the plan is to read...read...read.
Best to all,
Morris |

Hi Morris!
Let me say to you a welcome from Italy too! Don't hesitate to tell us about your mineralogical experiences! I know Thailand is a very interesting country for minerals and gemstones and a Thai mineralogist can tell us much about this country!
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo. _________________ Hi! I'm a collector of minerals since 1973 and a gemmologist. On Summer I always visit mines and quarries all over Europe looking for minerals! Ok, there is time to tell you much much more! Greetings from Italy by Riccardo. |

Thank you very much Jordi, Pierre, Tracy and Riccardo for the very warm welcome. I have a feeling I will be spending quite a bit of time here. I am no mineralogist, just a passionate amateur who loves to learn and since I'm currently taking the GIA Gemology Program, that sparked my interest in other fields.
I'll review the forum postings to ensure any questions I have weren't previously covered. Although Thailand has a vibrant gem industry, the interest in mineral specimens is small in comparison. I'm slowly starting to collect and have chosen Pakistan as a locality to focus on for the time being.
I'm Canadian by the way, but have lived here for almost ten years and am very happy to call Thailand home.
That's my bio for now, looking forward to ongoing education from everyone on this forum!

Hi Morris! Then I can advice you another site where you can discuss about gemstones: its name is "gemology on line". However feel free to have a talk with us about your experiences, even as a gemmologist! I know well the GIA Institute, it's a very good school, you will learn very much about gemstones!
Greetings from Italy by Riccardo.

Thanks Riccardo, I'm familiar with gemologyonline already and use it from time to time. What brought me here though is wishing to have a deeper understanding of the mineralogy behind gemstone deposits in regards to location and other minerals that may be found in the same area.
I'm not in the jewelry business, this is just purely for my own education and since I've started my studies I've found this side more interesting than the retail or 'finished' side. It's not just about gemstones, it's the whole geological picture that fascinates me.
