Photos of a Duftite with clear Calcite crystals that take on the color of the underlying mineral. The Duftite forms a thin crust on the Limonite matrix. The calcite is fluorescent in MW and fluoresces a light yellowish white. No reaction in SW. The Clear Calcite over tops both the Limonite and the Duftite.

This Calcite, while not spectacular, was acquired because of the excellent UV presentation. The crystals are butterscotch colored and fluoresce a bright white in MW. The back of the sample has a wonderful contrast between the white calcite and the pitch black matrix. While not a show piece it does look nice in white light.

Please, don't forget to include all the required data when posting photos (species name, locality and size). There are some missing in this page. It is needed for your FMF Gallery to work properly. Thanks.

Here is an unusual sample and location. I acquired it mostly as a curiosity specimen. The crystals are very small ranging from 1 mm to sub mm . They have a red fluorescence in SW.

Eisenkiesel from Spain though I much prefer the Spanish "Jacinto De Compostela". Compostela was a stop on a medieval pilgrim route, The Way of Saint James (Iago). Santiago De Compostela. The sign of the pilgrim was the the gourd and cockle shell. I understand these quartz were carried as talisman (mindat). From France and Europe pilgrims trekked to Santiago De Campostela, Cabo Finisterre (Cape at the end of the world). "I shall take the Cockle Shell" was the pilgrim's cry.

Thanks Don. I have always felt the microscope was the great equalizer in that if you have small samples that may not be world level there is always amazing things to see if you can access the tiny details and it lets everyone see what is possible. Now if I could just master the techniques such as the latest magnificent micro photos in the "Mineral Record". Those are real works of photographic art. I also thought the tourmaline, being discussed in another thread, was really nice on a small scale. Beautiful crystal, in small, in an unusual setting.
