I do collect mineral specimens from Morocco among other specific mineral groups.

Mostly I have to buy them, and mostly from Jordi, because he simply have the best selection of Morocco minerals on the web.

But sometimes I got that feeling that I shold go to Morocco for the purpose of collecting my favourites "in situ"

That will increase my understanding for my mineral collection from Morocco, and add something valuable to it.

Any comments of that Jordi?

Hi Jan,

Well, good question!

I visited Morocco more than 50 times and I really love this country. I expended an important part of my life there, so logically I can't suggest anything different that to go there, visit the country and enjoy its colors, its landscapes and the people, really special.
Said this, and talking about minerals, I should confess that I always got my best prices for Moroccan mineral specimens on the mineral shows, no in Morocco, and no only dealing with Moroccan dealers but also from dealers from other countries.
The reason is very simple: when you go there you be in his territory, you expended money on the trip to go there and you SHOULD buy specimens to recover your investment. On shows the status is the opposite: you be on your territory, and they SHOULD sell, so its prices become much more reasonable than in his own country. Funny, but real!

Of course on shows you will miss some highlights fast sold in Morocco to the main dealers / collectors but speaking about regular collections my opinion is that the best to do is to buy Moroccan minerals on shows or on line and then visit Morocco as a tourist enjoying his wonderful country and forgetting the purchase of minerals there.

Hopefully it helps.

Jordi Fabre
