Hi folks,
Yesterday and today I finally took a trip to TERRA MINERALIA in Freiberg/Saxony, maybe the best and most valuable mineral collection/exhibition in the world. Maybe the Giazotto collection in Italy and the MIM Museum in Beirut can compete with it, I don't know for sure. But what I saw in these two days in Saxony was so thrilling, so outstanding, so awe-inspiring, all mineral collections I've seen in my entire life look like a small cute box of rubble compared to the incredible treasures that are on display in Freudenstein Castle in Freiberg. This may sound brain-washed, and indeed my mind will take long to handle what I saw there ...
However, I just returned home from Freiberg and realized that I took 500 photos instead of the 150-200 I planned ;-) I will inspect them now to look for bad quality photos and then I will start uploading them here, it could reach the dimensions of a Gail Spann show report - don't say I didn't warn you ;-)
I will not put many comments in the report, those photos don't need any words. I tried to capture the label in each picture and I'm sure you will identify everything though it is in German ;-)
An info about the specimen sizes: Yes, most of them are large, some even very large. Always take the black labels as reference, nearly all of them have a width of exactly 10 cm ...

For me, it is a trip of 400 km to Freiberg - and it was absolutely worth it. My recommendation to everyone who loves minerals: Go there at least once in your life and visit this extraordinary collection, no matter how long the journey may be for you ...
