PostPosted: Nov 14, 2015 11:14    Post subject: Re: Collection of Michael Shaw

Each of the specimens in my collection is accompanied by a numbered label identifying the species and location. About a year ago I began the process of attaching a corresponding number to the mineral. In spite of this being a huge undertaking with several thousand specimens to complete, it has been both an interesting and enjoyable project. Some of the specimens have been hidden away for quite a while and it has been fun to reacquaint myself with them. I've also had a chance to think about the people that once owned or collected them, many who are no longer with us. I came across the following two pieces this morning and thought I would share them here.

1247 Quartz.jpg
 Mineral: Quartz
 Locality:
Itinga, Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais, Brazil
 Dimensions: 3.6 x 6.7 cm
 Description:
A transparent quartz crystal with smoky phantoms from the Santa Clara pegmatite. Midway down the crystal there is a fluid-filled cavity with a movable bubble. Obtained from Luiz Menezes in 2004.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your comment. It's just fascinating to look at that crystal under the microscope.
