During a recent visit to the family farm near Otjosondu, we undertook short excursions to some of the manganese mining sites nearby.
Otjosondu is situated in the Okahandja district, Otjozondjupa region.
Three sites were visited and the following information gained:
Site 1: Mining discontinued during the mid 1980's.
Site 2: Mining discontinued approximately 2008.
Site 3: Mining discontinued 2015.
No comments on mining methods will be made.

Hi Heimo. Thank you for sharing your outing with us. Fantastic rain in the semi -desert!
The mamba is a fearful and very poisonous snake. I encountered one of about the same size up in Kangwane, Gauteng and had to kill it because it was a danger for children. I hope there are more photos of your trip coming.

Hello Bob, yes a lot of equipment, but no evidence of any consistent maintenance done. The company apparently has gone into liquidation and unless they can find some serious financial assistance, everything will be auctioned off.
