Did pretty good digging for amethyst and smokey quartz in South carolina the other day. Check second post for pics of the dig and vein
Description: |
My whole back porch full of crystal and crystals plates..mostly smokey's but some will be ammy's and a few of the larger plates tend to have a light purple color in some of them |

Cleaned plate of smokey/amethyst crystal plate(light purple in some of the crystals. This will be a cool piece as the main crystals will be completely surrounded by snow white druzy. There is still some manganese that I need to get off with acid |

continuation of the above post. Here are some pics of the vein and dig. I didn't have my camera when we were pulling these out but grabbed it the next day.
Description: |
Nearing the bottom where the vein starts to peter out..still finding druz here but no more large crystals. |

You can easily see the delieation between surrounding host rock/dirt(really dirt) and the crystal vein. It trends downwards at about an 50 degree angle. Why do they always tend to go downwards..jeez..that means more and harder digging |

Here is a pic of the vein. it's very decomposed(thank god). The crystals tend to be found in plates about 4 inches from the boundry of white clay, directly in the middle of the black area. |

Great pics! How would someone (me) in Oregon go about obtaining some of these specimens? Any Chance at all?

Purchasing for my collection and possibly an extra few. You could contact me directly , if you wish. I'm not sure what the rules are about that. Jodi could provide you with my direct e-mail.(permission granted, Jodi.)

Here are two crystals that came from the same location. They both have movable enhydro inclusions(gas bubble in fluid). I tried to capture the bubble moving but you know how hard that is with still photos LOL
Description: |
Here is aa ammy with an enhydo(gas bubble in fluid) inclusion. This one is not as good as the next crystal(smokey) as it only moves a fraction of an inch. the bubble is bigger but moves less. Tip ia also damaged |

I tried to capture the bubble moving with multiple pictures. This is a real good spec. as the bubble moves over an inch and is close to the surface so is easily seen. |

Here are a few more that I just pulled out the acid bath to get some pics. they are still wet in the photos. Good thing it's not flouric for the sake of my hand and the quartz crystals..LOL. Big crystals are cool and all but I prefer unique habits and shapes. All specimens still need cleaning. I will post more as they get cleaned

Here is one I really like. There seems to be quite a few of these. They have a small contact point and the whole rest of the piece is covered by crystals and druzy. it's a porcupine piece. they remind me of those Brazilian amethyst specs. that are completely covered by crystals except for the base..what are those called is it "cathedral " well maybe not I don't remember. I will have to look it up |

Here are some of the smaller clusters that are cleaned. Some of the manganese comes off rather quickly some seems to take weeks to come off.
