Wow, you have some amazing specimens in your collection. I truly hope to view them in person at least once in my life, need to start saving for the trip :)

Hi Pierre
What a nice array of quartz; I have read your thread on the quartz hunting in your area;
I like it very much. it is really interesting. But it is so sad to read that these beauties are in boxes.
However, you have built a nice reference collection; congratulations.

Hi Phillipe, thank you. I would love to have a display cabinet or two, but besides a lack of space there is the fear of damage. I photograph the ones I want to hang onto and we see it as an investment. When displaying specimens in glass cabinets, one has to take in consideration earthquakes or tremors. A strong earthquake caused a lot of destruction in this area about 45 years ago. Can you imagine what that would do to your glass cabinets?!

Nice garnet crystal Pierre! The cut stones are very attractive.
I didn't know there were such large gemmy andradite crystals from Namibia.
Best regards, Mike

A smoky quartz specimen with chlorite.
I want to bring to attention (to the administrators) that Kakamas is just a small town near the Orange river and insignificant when it comes to mineral specimens, save that a mineral dealer is situated there. The correct wording should be 'Orange river pegmatites, Northern Cape, or Namibia' as the Orange river is the border between the 2 countries.
Mineral: | Quartz with chlorite |
Locality: | Orange river pegmatites, Kakamas, ZF Mgcawu District, Northern Cape Province, South Africa | |
|
Dimensions: | 56 x 52 x 43 mm |
Description: |
This type of specimens are not very common from that area. |

Your collection is exotic, I can only wonder what rocks and minerals in Africa are waiting to be discovered.I could imagine that the story behind the rock, that of the collector, is equally fascinating.

Hi Frank, I feel honoured to have this kind comment on your first post on FMF. Thank you :-)
I agree, if a rock could speak, some would have fascinating stories; some of greed and theft; others of joy.

Thank you Reinhardt. Here is a small specimen with a story. We purchased this little specimen at Uis a number of years ago. It is seldom that you find small delicate clusters like these from Brandberg. I photographed it, but later I was dissatisfied with the photos and I wanted to photograph it again. While I attempted to do so, it dropped just a few cm and broke in 3. Fortunately I still had the old photos, which now was valuable. I reassembled it and now it is in our collection; repaired like most of us.
