Hi Pierre,
I am enjoying the photos of your recent collecting trip. As one who is also interested in
botany as well as minerals, I loved the wildflower pics. The flowers in photo P1200266.JPG are very beautiful. Do you know the name of this species? Very unique.

Thank you Michael. I will send a picture to Kirstenbosch to get the name. I cannot recall seeing this specie before. Living in the Western Cape, one has to have an interest in flowers. It has the most species in the world. :-)

Thank you Reinhardt! Looking forward to your visit.
Saturday, I took a drive to yet another new area. It was cold with light rain. The purpose was more to just get out to where I belong. As I am always on the lookout for nature's treasures, I was rewarded again when I found a new quartz area. When I arrived home, I was pleasantly surprised when I noted that nearly all crystals have green to light blue phantoms. There are still many crystals, so next time, I will treat this area as very special. Here are just a few samples.

Today, our gardener, Pieter and I was redoing our pathway to make it wheelchair friendly. While digging, we found a number of quartz crystals. Often, while digging in our garden, we find crystals; sometimes quite nice quality. It seems to me that you can find quartz crystals nearly everywhere here in Ceres :-)

| Oh wow, and it just gets better, those phantoms are superb, simply amazing. I am so looking forward to our visit still got lots of planning to do. I think it's a good thing you don't find crystals in my garden or I would have had a second Kimberley se gat in my yard by now and a very angry wife hahaha.

Thank you Philippe and Reinhardt. If it were quality amethyst quartz crystals, then there would have been a network of tunnels under our house :-) Fortunately, I have not found anything worth digging deeper than 24" (planting poles) :-)

Hi Michael, this is the answer I got from Kirstenbosch gardens with regards to the strange red flower (266 JPG) : 'It is called Microloma tenuifolium, commonly called Coral Creeper, Red Wax Creeper or Bokhorinkies' Bokhorinkies means small goat horns, if freely translated.

Ah, Pierre, the phantoms are super cool! Any idea what the depositional phantom layer is composed of? Also thanks for the genus/species of those handsome little flowers.
We are having some luck (translation- keep digging and you will find something) in Hiddenite but I cannot post anything yet regarding present finds. If we get into a decent quartz pocket in the next few days I will post some images from that.

Hi Mark, I cannot wait to see your thread. Your finds do not have to be spectacular to be enjoyed. The adrenaline rush of possibilities is what drive us. The phantom find is very exciting! I only discovered this when I came home and cleaned some. We have been very busy lately, but I will view some of these specimens under my microscope (a gift from dear friend Reinhardt) and let you know what I find. Riana and I plan to visit this place again soon. Best regards.
