An exciting novelty was the presentation of Machinga, a locality in Malawi that although vaguely known in the past, now is being exploited again and giving (for now) excellent Niobophyllites and Eudidymites with thick, well-formed crystals between translucent and transparent. We'll see what will happen in the future but if all goes well it could be a new Mount Malosa.
I would also highlight the recent appearance in the classic Naipa mine, Mozambique, multicolored tourmalines very similar to those of the Santa Rosa mine in Brazil and the reappearance there of world class Stibiotantalites. Also I would like point out the continued presence of very aesthetic Pyrites from the "Atahualpa" level in the Huanzalá mine, Peru. They would surely be the most beautiful in the world if it were not the large amount of damage on the edges of the crystals that occur during the extraction of these specimens... |

Thank you for posting all these mouth watering pictures Roger. I am now already counting down for next year show.
By the way the next year Munich special exhibition theme is called 'From mine to mine'. Any ideas what they exactly mean with that?

Hi Peter,
No I do not know the secret of the next exhibition.
What I know is that it will be a total success. The thematic exhibition of Munich itself is the worth of the trip. I have never been disappointed since 1977. It was there (and also in Ste Marie) that I learned what minerals were. It was an indispensable complement to all textbooks on Earth.
I would like to read the statements of all the former thematic exhibitions which have magnified the name of Munich.

These are some wonderful photos, I especially like the fluorites!
I did notice that one (127-Fluorite_20879_R.jpg) is labeled as coming from the Xiefang Mine. I have seen nearly identical ones that were labeled from the De'an Mine, also in Jiangxi Province. I don't know which of the two localities is the correct one for these unusual fluorites.

Strongly pleochroic iolite can display a blue to violet hue in one direction and pale yellow to colorless in another.
Iolite (gemologist term) is cordierite (mineralogy).
