PostPosted: Nov 28, 2016 04:22    Post subject: Collection of Carles Millan: Quartz from Las Vigas

Quartz, epidote

Group of purple to colorless transparent quartz crystals on a matrix covered by contrasting small acicular green epidote. Overall size: 111mm x 91mm. Widest crystal: 14mm. Tallest crystal: 53mm. Weight: 297g.

Since I stand against the use of varieties I much prefer not to name it amethyst. Simply quartz.

Las Vigas, Veracruz, Mexico.

It took 67 shots of this specimen to get just one decent photo. When I was about to give up, I thought to try with a smartphone. And got it!

To Tobi, Nunzio and Don:

I'm very glad you like it. Thanks for your comments! It looks like the long hours spent on taking and processing such a large number of photographs were worth it. And it was even a little fun.
