Thank you Phillipe. Nice to hear from you.
While not as famous as some of the other locations like the Minerva, Denton, and Annabel Lee mines, the Spar Mountain (Iron Mountain) location seems to have produced a few nice quality fluorites. I have never seen much of anything else from there however.

MICHAEL, It is my understanding that The Hastie Quarry mining into the South side of Spar Mountain has adits directly continuing into the closest of the 2 nearest Harris Creek mining district mines (not the Annabel Lee Mine). So your pictured example might actually be from one of those mines that you mention rather than being from another nearby locality. BOB

Hi Bob,

Yes, I'm aware of that, and I saw some fluorite from some of the new quarrying efforts at Hastie at the Denver Show. I acquired this piece from Jared Freiberg at the Denver Show this past September. Since I had never heard of an Iron Mountain location, and the southern Illinois fluorspar district is one focus of my collection, I asked him about it. He told me that several years ago he had purchased this piece and several other flats labeled "Iron Mountain" from the wife of a local dealer after he died. She told Jared that Iron Mountain referred to older surface workings on Spar Mountain, near the Hastie Quarry, but not actually part of it. This seemed to be confirmed by several other locals that Jared talked to. In the end, I think Spar Mountain is as close as I'm going to get to a locality for this specimen.
