PostPosted: Feb 04, 2018 09:02    Post subject: Tucson Show 2018 - Peter Megaw's collection

Tucson 02/03/2018

Yesterday Saturday Peter Megaw exhibited part of his collection in the lobby of the Westward Look. As Jean Sendero as well as Gail has already posted many photos of the pieces in her, as usual, extraordinary thread Gail Spann's Tucson Adventures. February 2018. I now publish only these two photos as an appetizer and in the next hours or days I will publish individual photos of many pieces with the details (species/locality) of each of them.

More to come...

Super bowl sunday,
Seems to be a very quiet day with beautiful weather.
I will post a few pics from two visits at the HTCC, a quicky on wednesday to say hello and on Saturday to start the chase after having spend 90% of the budget at the Westward Look.

So just to talk about the parking at the HTCC.......credit to the organizers for trying hard but it is not a great solution. Access to the lot is not easy and walking is a good walk.

So get there early and park on the dirt road.

Now for Mexican Minerals,
The usual suspects were visited, Xtal (Dennis Beals), Burillo Minerals (Luis Burillo), Minerales Valenzuela, Olson Minerals, and Open Adit (Brother and sister, Mark and Lisa Kielbaso. Father Joe did not make it this year).

If I look for new material or new finds, the picking are very slim this year. Dennis Beals had the most of what I would classify as a new find. Last year some grossular garnet surfaced from Las Minas, this year Dennis has some very nice topazolite from Plan de Gallos, Piedra Parada (Las Vigas) Veracruz. Similar to last year grossular but with a more yellowish tint. From the same locality, he is also offering some vesuvianite and diopside. Included in Dennis material were some large cabinet plates of the clear barite from Veta Vulcano, San Diego Mine in the Santa Barbara mining district in Chihuahua mined in July 2017. To close, a rarely seen Cupro Adamite from Mina El Pancho in Oaxaca collected on September 1, 1995 by yours truly.

The specimens at Luis Burillo were not new find but were of quality. Nice assortment of species and localities.

Just a note from the front line of the HTCC show. On Sat. the 27th, the opening day, one of my staff, on the job, received the invitation to f—off 37 times before lunch. A new record. I remind my staff daily that we are here to help and to be polite. I realize everyone has the right to arrive pissed off, but traffic has been steady and parking offers itself to those who persevere, and with the close, off site, free parking the problems encountered have been like any other year. The one obvious difference is the level of civility. So to close, I say if you love minerals, mineral people and a chance to expand your mind, you will find parking and the enjoyment you seek. The show is a work in progress, and we shall improve our signage and communication with you all, if I have anything to say about it. Thank you for your time. Thanks for coming.

Hi Vic, it sounds like you and your staff have a very ungrateful job. I hope it pays well:-) All the best.
