PostPosted: Apr 18, 2019 15:39    Post subject: Presentation of new members - Alexander in Boston (Hi, let introduce myself)

Hi, my name is Alexander. I'm Italian moved for work in Boston one year ago. I'm Biologist big fan for everything about nature as minerals and fossils.
I'm a Japanese/chines calligraphy practitioner since long time, is my favorite hobby.

i have a humble collection composed by quite modest specimens but i'm proud of it.

I hope to learn more about minerals and collectors here in the States. I'm also interested to swap or acquire new specimens so if you have something to give feel free to contact me.

Welcome to the forum! I have a modest collection myself. I have found the people here very knowledgable and willing to share their expertise. Looking forward to seeing some of your specimens. There is a collector's gallery section.

Best regards,
Richard

Welcome, Read the rules etc is best advice I can give. Some people here with amazing knowledge and specimens.but not always time for people posting without following the rules etc. I’m Australian and interested in all kinds of rock, minerals, fossils and meteorites except anything “new age” or manufactured, Natures wonders are enough for me without humans messing about with them. :)

Just recently I joined the FMF-club, but have visited the forum for several years. My wife (Annemieke) and I have been mineral collectors for a long time. We started our collection in 1975. In 1980 this came to a temporarely end and we restored our collection in the attic. After our retirement we started collecting again and have become fanatics. After viewing many collections of other people on this forum, we would like to share photos of ours. We'll start posting soon.

Having lived in the Netherlands for some years, I can assure you there are few to no minerals from the Netherlands....it hardly has much solid rock of any kind, and what little there is rarely of mineralogical interest. But there are collectors there, with good collections [mostly from elsewhere...] In my collection, only as a token of the time I spent in Holland do I have one piece of limestone from their 'highest' 'mountain' Mt. Saint Peter 171 m [561 ft.]. Lovely country, but not a bonanza for field collecting ;-) https://www.mindat.org/search.php?search=netherlands

Thank you R Saunders and Peter for your welcome. It's true what Peter said: there are hardly any minerals of interest in The Netherlands for a collector; maybe some strontianite and pyrite in micromount size. So we have none in our collection apart from our micromount collection.

I'm not at all familiar with what is available now, but you can explore the following to see some reported mineral sites: https://www.mindat.org/loc-24644.html

Hi Kevin, as you can see 90% comes from one location (Ratum quarry)..

Welcome, Rob and Annemieke!

But I must disagree about there not being interesting minerals in the Netherlands. One of the cutest pyrrhotites I've ever seen came from a cavity in a flint nodule from the underground marl mines in Maastricht. There is even danburite from the Netherlands... You just have to drill down a long way to get it. ;))
