PostPosted: Oct 31, 2009 11:48    Post subject: Pre-ordained happening

Two weekends ago, I was set up and selling at the Rochester Gem and Mineral show. At around 4 pm ish I was rearraging specimens for the hetic break down and pack up. I noticed in one of my son's flats of Colombian Eemerald speciimens a Thumbnail size matrix with a Emerald crystal 1 cm long and as thin as regular pencil lead that got hidden under the cotton.

I thought what would we do with such a small specimen with such a tiny dark green gemmy crystal. I though maybe a door prize at the next show or give it to a young collector.

Afew minutes later a family came by and I heard the dad mention the Emerald in the sales case. I asked are you a collector and he said no, but my son loves minerals and collects. Emeralds are his favorite mineral. He reads mineral books and uses the internet. He was about 7-9 yrs of age. Lights and Bells went off in my mind!!!

I asked him about what minerals he had purchased at the show as he was clutching a precious bag of little boxes. They thanked me for the tiny Emerald.

A few minutes later, the little boy was trying to give it back to me, as his Mom had come. I told his parents, that I gave it to him, as it was meant to happen, and related the discovery of the TN specimen, I told him that I believe that it was meant to be owned by their son as this all happened within a few minutes.

Possibly he will become a future serious collector, geologist or dealer. I felt real good. I thought you all would appreciate the little story after reading John's Halloween prank.

Thanks for that heart warming story - I love it when things fall into place like that. I love doing demos for school age kids. The Rockhounds/Collectors of tomorrow!
