| The Illinois/Kentucky fluorspar district for me..tons of mines, lost mines, hidden mines and over 100 years of mining history. Ben Clement museum says it all when you talk about fluorite from that area..plus..the best part..anybody can go dig for their own fluorite in that area..you can't beat that..can you do that at the Rogerly? at Okoruso? hands down any place where the average Joe can dig their own fine fluorites must be tops on a list:)

| Not at the Rogerley, as a rule, but there are plenty of locations with the North Pennines where intrepid collectors have found stuff.

Hi Antonio,
Just a small amendment needed on the following:
1. North Pennines Orefield, (including Rogerley, Hitlton, Botsburn, Rotherhope Fell, Florence Mine, Ullcoats Mine…)
The Florence and Ullcoats mines are not in the North Pennines Orefield but are to be found in west Cumbria.

Hi there,
I would suggest two small amendments too:
* "Erzgiberg Region" should be corrected to: "Erzgebirge Region".
* "Zehntausend Ritter Mine" is a very problematic name for the locality actually meant by it. Since the beginning of the 1990's a lot of Fluorite specimens have been appearing from the Frohnau mining area near Annaberg-Buchholz, Erzgebirge, Saxony. At first they were mostly labelled as to come from the "10000 (=Zehntausend) Ritter Mine". This in some cases is correct, in many other it is not. The 10000 Ritter Mine is only one of at least 30 mines or tunnels in a quite small area in Frohnau. Most of them are connected subterraneous to each other. Meanwhile one knows, that many of the Frohnau specimens come from the "Bergmännisch Glück Flacher" vein. This ist one of the main veins in the district and strikes many different minefields. Other well known areas in Frohnau, producing good Fluorite specimens are e.g. the Bäuerin Mine or Shaft 78. Some of the famous black fluorites (there are at least 3 different varieties of) are supposed to come from the "Auf der Krönung Stehender" vein in the 10000 Ritter mine area. Many others of the black ones are coming from the "Bergmännisch Glück Flacher" vein. This vein produced a very wide range of varieties, for instance the spectacular finds of outside green, stepped Fluorites with inner orange, blue and purple colour zones and the yellow-orange fluorites with inner purple zone, associated with Galena. The very rare intense blue Fluorites came from Shaft 78. The recently offered specimens with red phantom cubes inside, very seldom spectacular associated with fine lustrous rosy Baryte plates come from the Bäuerin mine, which delivered also green, dark purple, lemon yellow and reddish Fluorite cubes, most of them high lustrous with a characteristic green-white layered matrix.
To shorten it, I would suggest to name this locality just Frohnau, Erzgebirge, Saxony, because more than just one single mine produced the nice fluorite specimens.
Here are only a few examples of "non-black" Fluorites from Frohnau. This could be extended, if of interest.

First of all, Thomas, welcome to this message board. Your amendments are welcome too. I have just correct the list. I did not know the fluorites coming from there. They are amazing. I am sure the rest of minsurfers will be pleased if you upload more photos (I am also interested in black fluorites , could you show us one of them?).

I'm quite fond of the Fluorites from the Famenne region in Belgium.
Good specimens are far from abundant but every now and then I have been able to find nice specimens.
