On the Spanish side we have been trying to decide on the correct denomination of this locality. It is, as so often, complex but it seems there was once a concession called 'Almanzora' and over the years the name got corrupted and it became 'Las Manforas', but that concession also ceased to exist. The main area for recent specimens was from what has become the Áliva Mine. Many maps still say 'Las Manforas' which creates a lot of confusion.
I recall collecting these Calcites, and I recall that they come from the Áliva area, probably the old Providencia concession, as shown in the last plan of the discussion:

Changed to the current name we have agreed on, but it could change again.
My similar Calcites came from old workings in what would probably have once been the Providencia or Disputada claims, but had become Aliva when Antonino found them! Which raises another question - do you use the locality name used when the tunnels were mined or the locality name when the specimen was found?

James, I don't know of any locality name changes where I have collected. I think that what makes the best sense is to use the current name for the locality with a note for historical purposes that gives the name of the locality when the specimen was found. Either N.B. or parentheses.

I do much the same - current locality name and then any information on where, and when, in the locality it was found (in a notes field).
As we have researched Spanish localities for the FMF locality database I often have to update my specimen database; so there is a note on file saying only the electronic data is correct and the printed labels are often out of date. It would be good to electronically link my specimen database to the FMF one (for Spanish localities) but I doubt that will happen.

These last two specimens that I posted are from Jordi. i.e. Calcite twin and Fluorite. In 2012 Jordi encouraged me to post pictures of my collection. Jordi has been a source of inspiration and knowledge all these years. I cannot thank him enough. Very sad to see him retire from being a dealer.

Don, that is a nice Naica specimen, but what's up with the red reflections on the galena? It makes the galena look more like cuprite :>)

Michael, I'm sorry that's a reflection from the body of my camera which is red. I did not notice it before I posted it.

Michael, I'm sorry that's a reflection from the body of my camera which is red. I did not notice it before I posted it. |
Michael my eyes may be a little color deficient which kept me out of flight school when I applied for army aviation during my junior year of ROTC. However I did get my commercial and multiengine licenses on my own. 😊

I took both the Ishihara vision test and the Farnsworth lantern test.
