And finally, a new mineral for me. I never was interested in brookite and I never thought I would want one for my collection. But I could not resist the aesthetics of this little piece: A free-standing, damage-free brookite crystal of nearly 2 cm rises from the matrix and is surrounded by small quartzes. A lovely addition I never thought I wanted ;-)

Nice brookite, Tobi. That Pakistani locality has provided the best brookites of the world, and every collection should have at least one.

I know what you mean. But it was never my collecting approach to collect minerals because the locality is special or because they're the best of the species or because "every collection should have one" ;-) I collect only what appeals to me in terms of aesthetics, and brookite never really appealed to me ... but when this specimen was handed to me, I changed my mind ;-)

The next specimen is a small sculpture of fluorite on schorl from the Erongo Mountains in Namibia that strikes with its shape and beauty. An eye-catcher, though a quite small one :-)

Although small, it's a really good acquisition. I recently bought a very similar specimen from Erongo, probably from the same vug, and I'm happy with it.

Thanks Carles. I remember the specimen in your thread, also very nice! I guess there are many many vugs with very similar mineralization in this area but who knows, maybe they're from the same :-)

Thank you Dany. I'm really in love with this piece. And it was at first sight when I saw the photo above in a recent update from the dealer :-)

Thanks Bob. I never thought about mineral competitions but if I should ever join one - this specimen would be with me ;-) And yes, the mountains of the Erongo Region are really amazing, one of my favourite mineral localities!

... which leads to the next mineral specimen that will be my last addition in 2024: This wonderful specimen of amethyst comes the Brandberg area and features almost everything that made this area famous, the crystals include phantoms, different colour zones and bubble inclusions. A great addition for me since I love both quartz and Namibian minerals:

I was wrong, there's one more; I was lucky to obtain this beautiful little Siegerland specimen from Andreas Gerstenberg:

Thank you, Carles. I agree that this cute little specimen is a good addition. Not only that it is very aesthetic with its three different, all well-crystallized minerals. It's also from an important locality. Pfannenberger Einigkeit was a major spot in Siegerland, a famous German mining area. That locality was a giant and very deep mine that also brought a lot of beautiful minerals for collectors to the market. Besides the three species above, a lot of great galena and millerite came out, also several others like pyromorphite.

I wish all of you a happy new year, I want to start it with my own photo of the new specimen :-)

Best regards
Tobi

A cute little piece I was happy to add to my collection:
I was searching for such a classic yellow mimetite from Mexico for a while but there are not many on the market. This one is really small but I like it a lot and due to limited space in the display cases it's not too bad to add some smaller specimens ;-)

An addition to my quartz collection, a nice amethyst phantom crystal from a rather uncommon locality in Bulgaria. I think I never heard of this locality before until I stumbled upon this specimen. The 10 cm crystal is mostly colourless but shows several purple phantoms and has some side crystals at its base. I got this from the Christian Weise Lapis Shop and they did the best possible job in taking photos of this beauty, so I won't even try to make other photos:
