PostPosted: Aug 10, 2015 22:20    Post subject: Collection Of Casimir Sarisky

Here is my humble collection of fluorite, pyrite, and schorl. Personally unlike many other collectors, I prefer a smaller collection. I like colorful specimens that are very lustrous, have excellent colors, and are without any damage.

Let me start with my Pristine Large Fluorite from Elmwood Tennessee:

The next one is the recent Botryodial Green Fluorite from Xinyang, China:

The last one is a weathered miniature Dark Purple from La Viesca, Asturias Spain.

 Mineral: Fluorite
 Locality:
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Central Tennessee Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Smith County, Tennessee, USA
 Dimensions: 10.8 x 8.9 x 7.6 cm
 Description:
Purple Fluorite
Looks much better in person. Looks great with sunlight as shown in the images. Excellent etching with a noticeable "Carthage corners". Very aesthetic in my opinion.

The color reminds me of Shamrock green. Most others I have seen have a lighter faded green color, and are flat plate specimens. Pretty specimen that is very aesthetic in my opinion. Lovely miniature complex crystals.

Nice fluorites, Casimir, but maybe you should honour them with a better setting than these plastic wraps ;-)

The plastic wrappings I use when I handle them to prevent any damage while moving them. I also set them on a bed of plastic wraps to prevent any damage when moving them from the shelf. I have found it difficult to find display cases for the large specimens in my collection. The one time I ordered a case for one of them, it arrived damaged with loose plastic pieces.

I am on the lookout for mineral display cases but the ones I have found online are for mainly thumbnail, miniature, and small cabinet specimens.

I had the same problem trying to find ready made cases for my larger specimens. We looked at furniture stores specializing in the display and curio cabinets. The corner of my office was not the typical cabinet size but we finally found a cabinet that fit perfectly. When you go to one of these stores, ask to see the catalogs of the cabinet manufacturers. There are two who dominate the market, Pulaski is one.

A lovely dark forest/emerald green cluster of fluorite cubes on matrix. It is crystallized on both sides, and is very gemmy. On the backside you can see the crystals nearing overlapping each other on one section.

The front is pristine, unfortunately there is a bit of wear on the backside according to the seller but I do not notice it. It is a gorgeous piece in and definitely has me interested in other fluorite from Okorusu.

A fine specimen of water clear fluorite on a matrix of Galena & Pyrite from Vtoroy Sovetskiy Mine in Dal'negorsk, Russia. Interesting botryoidal crystal formations, some of them having unique "cavities. No damage.

Here is a lovely combination of Galena & Sphalerite from Madan, Bulgaria. This specimen was in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Wouter Van Tichelen Collections. I have had it for a few years.

This is my first cherry red Vanadinite and I am quite pleased. It resembles a butterfly in my opinion.

Really nice specimens, Casimir. I think you could improve your photos (I also went a long way until it worked) - your collection deserves it :-)

And please try don't publish repetitive images. As explained here: https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=46825#46825

'Commercial or repeat pictures are not allowed. Put multiple images of the same specimen only if you think they show different interesting views or significant details. How do you look at minerals in a museum? Try to show your specimens with very few pictures!'

I bought an old (possibly antique) bookcase, cleaned it, lined it with lining wallpaper, painted that white, then added glass shelves and lights. Took a while but I like the result.

Agreed. I have been reading some of the threads/topics on FMF about taking better photographs. First step will be to get a desktop lamp that is friendly with more light sensitive minerals such as my Vanadinite. Then have a setup with a white background. The hard part will be finding a very budget friendly camera along with a budget friendly tripod. I will have to do some reading on cameras since I am unfamiliar with photography in general, but most cameras should be an improvement over my smartphone.

Understood. I was attempting to get better pictures of the individual crystals on my specimens. I will limit each individual specimen to have 1-3 photos from now on.

I have moved 3 times in the past 7 years; a bookcase would be better suited for when I find a permanent home. My closet has a 9 ft long white shelf that will be great for displaying my specimens. I think Acrylic display boxes/cases with black bases will go nicely with the shelf.
