One of the best known German pyromorphite locations before the major finds of the Bad Ems district were made, was the St. Josefsberg mine near Rheinbreitbach. The mine´s name later changed to Virneberg (type locality for pseudomalachite as well). Today the Rheinbreitbach pyro´s are not that famous anymore but Virneberg is still a classic, sought-after locale.
Mineral: | Pyromorphite |
Locality: | Virneberg Mine (St Josephsberg Mine), 60 Lachter level, Rheinbreitbach, Neuwied, Rhineland-Palatinate/Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany | |

I remembered that our German forum member Roger (Montanpark) once published photos from the great collection of Michael Ochel here on FMF. Michael has a stunning collection of German minerals, I often visit him and he has become the main source for my new specimens during the last years. But he's not into photographing his awesome collection or participating in an online forum, so I want to show some samples by using the photos Montanpark posted here 7 years ago ( https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?t=677 ):
