How come there is plenty of packing material when you packed in the first place, but never seems to be enough when you repack those same minerals?
Just something to remember, bring more packing material next time!

3 a.m. and we are pretty much walking zombies. We left and hooked up to electricity, slept for 5 1/2 hours and prepared to hit the road home.

We left Springfield at nine a.m. on Monday. Drove for many miles and stopped for a nap of 3 1/2 hours, then continued on to home making it here at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. 1676 miles. We unloaded the RV with the help of our daughter and her husband, thank goodness!
The pups and other pets were very happy to see us.

The final drive to drop off the RV. We live on a quiet back country road, with very little to no traffic...except this day when all hell broke loose as Jim drove the RV down this tiny road. We have never seen anything like it! He managed to dodge all obstacles, but check out the ditches he had to come close to! I was following in my car and had my camera handy...

Almost there!
I think this pretty much wraps up the prep, show and drive home portions of my ECGM show report. Thanks everyone for your wonderful and encouraging letters of support for my efforts.
Sorry for any duplicate photos, poor quallity or mistaken identities. I am still catching up on sleep and life at the Ole Spann home still goes on.
I had my lobster dinner while in Springfield, and even had it stuffed with scallops for good measure. Gail's a happy girl now.

Again, thanks to Jordi for giving me a place to post all this information. I hope you all make an effort to get to the Springfield show, well worth it and it is very laid back and well supported. New England offers great minerals as well as the wonderful world class world wide selections we saw there. Jim bought me a beautiful Hematite with Andradite to add to my collection, it is a beauty.

Off to a MAD meeting this evening, hope to get to share fun stories with our good mineral friends.
Cheers!!!!!!

Thanks Ryan, we had a MAD meeting tonight and Karl showed some of YOUR photos for the Smale party highlights.
So, I got to enjoy your photgraphic work too!

Gail and Jim,

congratulations on a stellar effort both putting on the amazing displays at Springfield and also sharing your photos of your epoch journey. A special thanks especially from all those collectors who like myself were unable to attend. It felt like we were riding along aside the two of you all the way.
I realise that you have a huge task ahead of you reinstalling the collection and reclaiming back your dining room, but if it at all possible could you post some more photo's especially of your Australian case please.
Thank you again
Regards
Jon and the girls.

Oh Hello Jon!
I sure will, the professional photos will be arriving soon, of each case, and I will be sure to post them on here.
I still have to show the labeling system we had on the back of each case, in close up detail as well.
Jim bought me a beautiful Hematite and Andradite miniature ,while in Springfield, for my (our) hematite collection and presented that to me so I got to take it to the Mineralogical Association of Dallas meeting tonight. It will be a keepsake from the year of the "exhibit" and I will cherish it greatly. We did manage to pick up a few new minerals while there, but had very little time to go browse and shop. My hopes are that others might post some photos of what they saw, if allowed to take photos. This is one of the rare shows that won't let you photograph without permission, in writing, from the dealers. Luckily I happen to know most of them and took photos while announcing that I would be posting on line...but none of their minerals.
We had them take down the NO PHOTOS sign in the exhibits area, we don't mind people taking photos of our minerals. If it will give them pleasure to look at minerals they found appealing, well...all the better!

Hugs to your sweet daughters, your wife and...of course, yourself!

Fabulous job Gail!.

Not thanks to me, but thanks to you and Jim. I think that it is the first time where a super exhibition, as yours, be described with photos from the start to the end. I'm so proud that FMF host this wonderful history!

Also, it shows to everybody how hard it is, and what precious gift is to have the chance to see a display of these world class specimens. People maybe suppose that those exhibits are a kind of glamorous party from rich people, but as your reportage shows so well, it is an enormous effort, full of big risks, done as an act of love.

THANKS GAIL, THANKS JIM!
