I know of only two full-time shops where prior appointments are not necessary, both in Germany.

Mineralien Zentrum, Steintwiete 11, Hamburg (www.mineralien-und-reisen.de)

Mineralien-Fossilien-Galerie, Fahrgasse 88, Frankfurt am Main

I am sure there must be others.

Fabre Minerals also sells in the main Spanish Shows: (MineralExpo and Expominer in Barcelona and Escuela de Minas Show in Madrid) as well as at his shop in Barcelona, but there only by appointment, as it is not a public shop.

There are other public shops in Barcelona, but I am not the appropriate person to commend them to you. I'm sure that other people will help you by giving to you details about other Barcelona shops, as well as European & on line shops.

hello!
I have baugh some minerals online,And there is no matter!
If you don't want to buy online, because you can't see or touch the specimen, you can go to mineral exhibitions.
I do the same thing, but I think it's not easy to find really nice specimens.
I don't know why, maybe because I live in France, and ther are lots of damaged or awful specimens...
It is harder and harder to find good or flawless specimens!

Hi Alex,

Just read your post. To answer your question, it depends on how far you are willing to go to find mineral shops (and as a result how much you want to spend on such a "quest").

I live in Grenoble's area where there is one mineral shop for instance but there are several others in the country. You can also meet French dealers through appointments just as in Spain.

If I have one advice to give you, your first move could be either the closest show from home or a show in large city such as Barcelona for instance. There you'll have the opportunity of meeting with several Spanish dealers & get all the information you want.

If you can afford it go to Ste Marie or Munich instead. There it won't be difficult for you to get the addresses of plenty of dealers. Another option could be buying online from serious dealers. Some of them are both selling during shows and online.

There certainly are some nearer to you border, but I know about a few shops in Paris, with all kind of prices (but most of the time more expensive than on the internet). they're full-open shops, and you don't need any appointments to visit them. I've bought quite a few times on the net and never have experienced any problem.
I do have a mineral shop myself on the web, but due to the fact that's it a home-enterprise I am not legally allowed to have guest customers, tssk...

If you happen to travel to Germany try to visit the twin town of Idar-Oberstein. It is located about 100 km east of Trier but I do not recall if it is in the Saar or the Eiffel region. Anyway, this town is (or was) a world center for gems and minerals trade, there you can find many shops dealing with minerals from all over the world. It should be better to plan the trip and make some contacts / appoinments before arriving, because some shops are for dealers only, while others are for collectors, you will also find (plenty) of tourist shops with high prices and low quality items, you better skip them. Do visit the mineralogical museum of the town, it is worth seing.

You can do a search on the internet and get some addresses through the tourism office, the chamber of commerce or the city web pages.

Regards.

Jose Luis.

Go to:
https://www.mineralientage.de/index.php?kat=140&typ=aussteller
(link normalized by FMF)
Search for " * "
And you will see 1026 mineral dealers with addresses in mostly Europe
Cheers!
