|

In an earlier post of 2009 on Hemimorphite, Peter Megaw posted a picture of the blue botryoidal hemimorphite from Bocoyna highlighting the fact that these are often mis-labeled as coming from the Santo Niño Mine (workings from Bocoyna connect to the Santo Nino Mine, but the hemis come from stopes in Bocoyna) -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=8675#8675
This is all fine with me. I have since adjusted my labels and descriptions.
Where I am starting to be confused, it's on what follows, "Cerro Las Minas, Guadalupe Victoria, Durango". Mindat does not have this locality on file but has a Santo Niño Mine in the municipio of El Oro, Durango rather then Mpio of Guadalupe Victoria. The two municipios are more or less 100 km apart.
So, the questions,
A) Is there another locality in Durango, other then the Bocoyna Mine that produced some of that nice blue botryoidal hemimorphite? Of all the specimens I have observed, all have the same matrix suggesting that only one locality produced them.
B) Could Mindat be so wrong which is based on Panczner 1987? Are the reported localities of Magistral and Santo Niño Mine in the Mpio of El Oro, really produced blue botryoidal hemimorphite. Or, are these mines really located in the Mpio El Oro, Durango?
Thanks
Jean

Panczner was wrong and Mindat inherited the error. The stuff comes from Cerro las Minas in Guadalupe Victoria

Hi all,
so after reading this, i would attribute this specimen to Bocoyna also ...? I got it only with a label Durango, Mexico, it is a 1970s specimen most probably. Peter, any thoughts on that?
Thanks,
cheers
Roger

Roger,
the matrix of these specimens is quite telling. Your specimen seems to have the same matrix then most specimens I have observed. I would not hesitate to say Bocoyna.
cheers

Roger,
Mindat needs to be cleaned-up and remove/correct the wrong entries. Mindat was the source of my confusion over this.
Cheers

I can at least add the new locality string at mindat.
This would be: Bocoyna Mine, Cerro Minas, Mun. de Guadalupe Victoria, Durango, Mexico
I found Cerro Minas (not Cerro de Minas) in Durango,
Esta es tu localización:
Cerro Minas
Latitud: 24.5119
Longitud: -104.134
which is near Guadalupe Victoria and on the satellite map it looks like a mining area. Peter, is that possible?
And is there any written reference somewhere? I would prefer to give a reference when adding this locality of course.
P.S. now found the same area in Panoramio as Cerro de las Minas ... so there may be different ways it is written.
cheers
Roger
P.P.S. now i think i have it:
www(dot)silverdragonresources(dot)com/Projects/Cerros_Las_Minitas(dot)asp
But there the mine is called La Bocona .....
so Peter could clear this up certainly :-)
