Hello,

The author, Alain Martaud, first visited the Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines mining district at the age of 14. Since then, he has never ceased to study the region’s mining archaeology and mineralogy (both classical specimens and rare and unusual minerals). Over time, he has become an expert on the region. His work presents the mineralogy of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines from a novel viewpoint that complements the numerous publications from the last 30 years. He helps you discover the mineral riches from these mines that have been worked for the last 1000 years or so and which have furnished so many specimens of an exceptional quality.

This book is the fruit of a wide knowledge of the Mineralogy of the district, but also of the contacts that the author has maintained with museums, archaeologists and local collectors. These people have given him access to their treasures, shared precious information and allowed the production of a superb series of original photographs. This work shows how a good knowledge of the specimens in public and private collections can promote a mining district in the eyes of the public.
