I recently traded for some material from the Nuestra Senora del Carmen mine near La Celia, Murcia, Spain. I have seen on Mindat where they are calling this particular mineral Warwickite and then Yuanfuliite is shown in the photo gallery. Since Warwickite is not in the mineral list am I correct to label my specimens as Yuanfuliite? Thanks everyone. |

Hi Ron,
I think you are right. Yuanfuliite is a member of the warwickite group. In a Spanish forum I have found that in the article "Bigi S, Brigatti M F, Capedri S (1991) Crystal chemistry of Fe- and Cr-rich warwickite, American Mineralogist, 76, 1380-1388" explains that in the specimens studied in La Celia, iron is near Fe3+ than Fe2+ of the warwickite. For this reason most specimens could be considered yuanfuliite instead of warwickite.
Regards. |

Sorry Ron, yesterday I didn't have enough time to search the document and post the link. Also thank you very much for doing it and for sharing it with us.

Holà,
I am sorry supertxango, but we cannot say that ALL warwickite specimens from La Celia are yuanfuliite just on the basis of the 1991 article. Please read it again carefully.
You can also read the interesting thread on FMF:
https://www.foro-minerales.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=65794#65794
I am going to find out why warwickite was removed from La Celia in mindat on 28/07/2011.
Best wishes,
Georges. |

...but probably it´s confirmed in the following article that all the specimens are yuanfullite.
Uitterduk Appel, P.W., Bigi, S., Brigatti, M.F. (1999): Crystal structure and chemistry of yuanfuliite. European Journal of Mineralogy, 11, 483-491
I can´t find the article in Internet. I´m going to ask César.

Hi again,
As a result of the queries that I have done, I have changed in my original text:
For this reason the specimens must be considered yuanfuliite instead of warwickite.

Thanks favreaug. |
