(Old specimen, better photos)

Elbaite, albite, quartz

Group of elbaite crystals with albite and quartz. Overall size: 65 mm x 57 mm. Major elbaite crystal size: 16 mm wide. Weight: 112 g. A quartz crystal is on the back. The transparent zone at the crystal tips is not really blue but almost colorless. Such color is induced by the background.

A typical specimen from Stak Nala, Haramosh Mountains, Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

Other nice specimens from the same locality can be seen at https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=3933#3933 and https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=3942#3942.

Stunning photos and great specimen. I am full of envy, wish I could take similar photos. These are surely the best photos of this type of material from Pakistan that I have ever seen.

Keep em coming!

John, I sincerely thank you for your comments. Your opinion is very valuable for me. But neither the specimen nor the photographer deserve such words.

Carles, as usual you are a master of modesty. But i'm sorry to agree with John and to say that both the tourmaline and the photograher DO deserve such words ;-)

Ferberite, mica

Group of ferberite crystals with mica. Overall size: 43 mm x 25 mm. Weight: 77 g. Purchased in 1966 from Francesc Coma, Barcelona.

Had to be repaired long time ago after an unfortunate free fall journey to the floor caused by the force of gravity. The curvature of the main crystal must be natural, not due to the repair, that is undetectable.

Panasqueira Mines, Covilhã, Castelo Branco, Portugal.

This specimen is no longer part of my collection.
