You may have seen some of the specimens I've been posting over the last week or so, today I spent some time going over some of the more damaged specimens, and I was trying to understand how so many of them became so badly damaged. I contacted the lady from which I had bought the collection and asked her what had happened.
It transpires that she had a small business, a Crystal Shop, selling tumbled stones etc, she had bought the collection from Dave Wall for next to nothing when he had needed the money and had nowhere to store them, he had just retired and was living in an old age home, she has over the years been breaking specimens apart to sell as little pieces of crystals in her shop.
There as some specimens that clearly shows where large crystals were attached and had clearly been broken of leaving nothing but the matrix and some trace of the crystal behind.
...Such a sad day. |

Really sad (but not so uncommon, unfortunately)

Yes its very sad & a shame fellow collectors at the club did not know as I'm sure they would have tried to save it ... but you must not dwell on what may have been ... Perhaps some specimens can be trimmed ? |
