Today starts the "climax" of the whole Tucson Show with its more official part: the TGMS (Tucson Gem and Mineral Show®) or Main Show...

Already in Barcelona let's continue now and in order the appetizer Tucson Show 2019 - The TGMS arrives to complete the magnificent work of Bob Kerr.
The preparation of the TGMS is a mix of excitation, sweat, friendly job and desire. And of course a lot of hard work...

Some thoughts about the 2019 Tucson Shows and next year:

|
Sorry to disagree Bob. I believe that what's happening is not that there are not "nothing new" but that those new discoveries runs hidden.
Why? the mineral business is becoming sophisticated, as all these new venues so well described by Bob proves, and due to that sophistication and the not so large quantity of specimens of the different new discoveries found compared with the past times, whom has the chance to have the jackpot of some new discovery him don't offer it publicly because the number of hi-end collectors and dealers who will be interested for something new exceed largely the number of good pieces of any new find, so is much easier and faster sell it out of sight than display it in any kind of venue.
Let me propose several examples of it in this post and in a second post that I will publish as soon as I finish the analysis, cleaning, trimming, photographing, etcetera…
- An impressive pocket of extremely red Proustites on Calcite appeared, shared in two different finds, during December 2018 in the Bouismas Mine, Bou Azzer area, Morocco. One of the best pieces was one extraordinary crystal of Proustite, single, without Calcite neither matrix, but 7 cm. long and 1.5 cm. thick. Comparable with the best pieces of Chañarcillo.
- Fine Chalcopyrites, some times with Galena on the crystals of Chalcopyrite, and related with Quartz and Calcite from El Bolivar Mine, Piedras Verdes (Triguito), Municipio Urique, Chihuahua, Mexico, mined in October 2018. The mine is operating so good possibilities for more/new future finds.
- Not brand new because is an old-classic locality, but as far as I know these Xenotimes from Ibiajara, Brazil, are much better than the known before due its quality and size as well as the association of Rutile needles
- Another new discovery of Fluorite from the apparently inexhaustible deposits of this mineral in China. Not clear yet the locality but at least Quanzhou Prefecture in Fujian Province seems to be correct. Spectacular dichroism on these Fluorites with a color change between blue and green according the kind of light and / or the exfoliation planes
More to come…

Addendum:
The indefatigable Milpillas Mine surprised us again with something new that I will introduce in my next post when this new discovery have its proper analysis ready. On the meantime, not new at all, but clearly different than the previous ones, few flat and gemmy Azurites appeared there in December 2018 and January 2019

Jordi, here is another specimen of the new find from Piedras Verdes, about 17 cm. I did not get this in Tucson. The miners brought some specimens to the New Mexico Mineral Symposium in November. The calcite is also fluorescent.

Jordi - there's no need to be sorry at all. There's no one (or even 3-4!) person(s) who can see all the doings at the many show venues. The more eyes reporting, the better as far as i'm concerned.
However, I find your examples of "new finds" to be much less than inspiring.
- The new proustites would indeed be very interesting (but how many and how big are they??),
- a new sulfide find? well, mildly interesting
- a new azurite sytle from Milpillas? there's been dozens of styles that have come out over the last decade or so (including the flat-ish crystals)
- gemmy or transparent azurite? are you sure? I await your further analysis but the photo you posted looks to me like the typical very thin layer of azurite over pseudo malachite after azurite base only lighter blue. A true gemmy or transparent azurite would indeed get lots of attention. (Would certainly like to hear Peter Megaw chime in here.)
- another Chinese fluorite find? I think I'm like most collectors, we've lost track of the huge variety of Chinese fluorites - I think I've seen this crystal form previously - but maybe not displaying dichroism - but then again maybe the previous ones did but I never looked that closely.
I guess I would consider the examples you posted as falling into the category of "small finds but nothing to really get the crowd excited".
Your thought about sales being "hidden" and "it's much easier and faster sell it out of sight than display it in any kind of venue" is bothersome to me. I cannot debate your observation (since the transactions were hidden) and they no doubt indeed happen - but to me, a find of any significance would also produce lots of lesser specimens that would make it to the general market.
so, maybe we have a difference in the definition of "new".

I find Paul Bordovsky's posting on this thread irrelevant to Tucson. It is a nice example and maybe from a new find, but has little directly to do with Tucson. Plus the fact that, in the first place, he did not get the example at that show. (For example, if I were to buy a new Milpillatas azurite from a high end dealer weeks prior to Tucson, it would not be directly relevant to Tucson and I would not include a picture of it it on this thread.)
Potential here for further confusing the Tucson thread.
I was briefly at the Tucson show; it was so large with so many venues including the tents with a few mining finds, that differing opinions are to be expected. These opinions, of course, include what is a "new" find and what constitutes a "significant" find etc etc.
My opinions, Bob
