Where would I find the most comprehensive reference of mine site photos, that I can download. Mindat would be it, but down loading is not possible. I want to put together a library of my specimens, alongside the mines they originated from.

Not sure there is a suitable repository to dip into. the LORP does have a huge inventory for Ojuela in Mexico and I'm happy to supply some from other Mexican localities.

However, if there are shots on mindat that you can't download...try a screengrab if it doesn't violate a copyright

If you are interested in Northern England, the Beamish museum archives has a lot of old mining photos from the region.

Thanks Peter.

I have pieces from mines world wide.
Great as Mindat is... the copyright on all of their photos has been my problem.
Any photos would be appreciated.

Cheers.

There is a site called "the Diggings" which taps into the USGS and BLM land records systems. I tried to send a link, but the anti-spam filter rejected it for some reason (the site is legitimate). Besides information regarding ownership, the map window allows for satellite views of the mine sites which are limited to the camera resolution. Hope that helps a little.

Brent - the FMF automatically rejects live links as possible spam. What you need to do it replace all the dots in the URL with (dot) and post it in that fashion. When an admin is satisfied that it your post isn't from a spambot trying to sell counterfeit Raybans or hair replacement for men scams, then it will be "normalized" as mine was above.

Here you have your first rejected message:

Hi

This site has information from the USGS, BLM, etc. for several million sites. When you pick a specific site, toggle the map window to "satellite view" for an areal view of the mine site. It is only as good as the satellite camera resolution, but will give you a start and some info on the mine site.
