|
|
A person on MIndat saw my image of tanzanite included in calcite with graphite and thought he saw what could be inclusions of merelaniite. The inclusions appear as long thin silvery whiskers.
Mineral: | Merelaniite |
Locality: | Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mountains, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania | |
|
Description: |
The longest "whisker" is somewhere between 1.5 - 2.0 cm. |

Is this already analyzed or still an assumption? Needles like this could also be something else...

This specimen has not been analyzed. But the person who asked about it has seen the detailed image and is pretty sure that it is Merelaniite. He is the lead author on a paper discussing this new mineral. Here is a link to the paper.

Hello AM,
thank you for the link and I apologize for my scepticism. Based on this article, merelaniite is really the most likely inclusion!
Best wishes and stay healthy,
Volkmar
