Hi,
For all who like to see footage from inside of a mine and of minerals in situ, I found a report on Mindat about a visit in the Greenlaws Mine. Jolyon Ralph visited the old and re-opened mine a few weeks ago and I really liked the insights he shared with the mineral community:

Fabulous!
Thanks to Jolyon and Katya (and Roman!) for posting, thanks to Peter and his friends for their efforts to bring the mine back, and thanks to you Tobi for bringing it to our attention....
It's worth pointing out that despite the non-requirement to wear a hard-hat, the operation does have to conform to a lot of the safety requirements for underground working in the UK. Peter and I had a conversation at Munich some years ago where he was proudly telling me that his timbering of the main shaft had passed inspection with flying colours.

Great information Tobi – thank you very much.
Such mines are a great asset to field collectors and folks interested in visiting a real mine.
Unfortunately the ‘nanny-state’ has shut down many formerly great mineral collecting localities. And before I get the normal criticisms, let me state that my partner and I are physically fit, well-educated, intelligent persons of good character with many years of experience in visiting mining sites. We do not need tax-payer financed bureaucrats telling us what is good and not good for us. We are capable of making such decisions for ourselves. Each person must take personal responsibility for their own actions – something politicians and bureaucrats seldom do. |
