I have now given up on Explorer as it is just too unstable. But I can no longer log into the forum with Firefox (so am using IE for the message). Is there a solution for this? |

I think it might be a problem with the settings on my company laptop - it works fine on my home PC but not my work laptop!
So I cannot work on the FMF from work - a good ploy for the company I guess

James,
We tested Firefox on their different versions and it should work well.
If someone have a similar trouble with Firefox, please letting us know.

James,
If it is only happening it at work, they probably have very conservative firewall settings. You could ask them to whitelist the URL for FMF. Tell them its for important research.

Hi James,
What happens exactly (error message, ...). Do you have the same problem with other websites (webmails for instance) ? How do you connect on the internet with your laptop ?
I never had any problem with FF on both Windows & Linux Debian. I can try to help you but I really need further information.

Hi!
>I can no longer log into the forum with Firefox
But what is exactly the problem? The phrase "I can no longer log" is not enough to figure out what is really happening to you. Could you please provide more details? What or who prevents you from logging?
For many years now I'm using Firefox, now the 3.5.2 version, and never had a problem with FMF. _________________ Al carrer Duran i Bas, si no hi vas no t'hi duran |

I enter my user name and password and then .... nothing happens (except I get sent back to the Index page). No messages, nothing, I am just not logged in! So hard to work out what is happening. Must be down to my corporate IT system. I will talk to them (or just do FMF from home)

Hi again,
I'm a bit puzzled by the fact you are sent back to the index page. Usually a proxy server with a white-list doesn't work this way. It just prevents access to restricted websites. I would guess it is the computer's firewall.
Can you make a try with the webmail of your home internet provider ? if the same thing happens, it might be likely due to a firewall somewhere preventing the non official web browser (here IE) to be allowed to do some actions.
You can always try to ask your company's IT about that.

Web mail seems to work fine, but FMF does not. If I get an aswer that works I will add it to this thread! Thanks everyone for your help - I am sure it is down to my company's IT policy and not Firefox

If you can get to the index page, but not log in, it isn't too likely that there would be a firewall blocking your access to the site. What I would look into was whether the company version of Firefox would allow you to store cookies for this site (if they set it up, they may only allow cookies from approved sites - or none at all). I am not sure if this forum requires cookies or can keep track of login status via the URLs if cookies aren't active. |

Thanks for your help David!. Yes, FMF requires cookies to log in.
James, you should check your company policy.

Hi!
Firefox itself may or may not accept cookies, depending on the user's settings. I copy below a piece of the FF online help:
_____________________
Check cookie settings
Firefox can be set to not accept cookies. To turn on cookies:
3.5:
1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu, and select Options.
2. Select the Privacy panel.
3. Set "Firefox will": to "Use custom settings for history".
4. Make sure "Accept cookies from sites" is selected.
5. Click Exceptions....
6. Make sure the site you're trying to access isn't listed.
* If it is listed, click on its entry, then click "Remove Site".
3.0:
1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu, and select Options.
2. Click the Privacy icon.
3. Make sure "Accept cookies from sites" is selected.
4. Click Exceptions....
5. Make sure the site you're trying to access isn't listed.
* If it is listed, click on its entry, then click "Remove Site".
If you changed any settings, try accessing the website again. If you still have problems see "Cannot log in to websites" [in this help file]. _________________ Al carrer Duran i Bas, si no hi vas no t'hi duran |

Hello again!
If your FF keeps not wanting to log, I suggest you to read this article:
https://support.mozilla.com/en/kb/Cannot+log+in+to+websites
(link normalized by FMF)
It is the FF help page for the question "Cannot log in to websites". _________________ Al carrer Duran i Bas, si no hi vas no t'hi duran |

Hi, James!
If it is neither the Firefox fault nor the FMF's, then it must be your company's. I fear I can do nothing else. Sorry!
Good luck! _________________ Al carrer Duran i Bas, si no hi vas no t'hi duran |

I think that these options are available on a stock Firefox install.
When you are on a FMF page:
click "tools menu"
click on "page info"
permissions tag - what is cookie status
Security tag - Is this web site storing information (cookies) on my computer?
If you view the cookie info is there any entries that start with phpbb |

Cookie status is 'Allow'
Three entries that start with phpbb

Hmmm... curiouser and curiouser.
First thing I would try is to delete all the cookie entries (from the detail page) and then try logging on again (if cookie file is corrupted).
Next thing to try is to delete the entire firefox browsing cache.
There are some other people that have this problem when there are multiple browsers/computers.

Unfortunately don't see a good solution there. |
