PostPosted: Oct 03, 2010 09:48    Post subject: Fire at the Executive Inn in Tucson

I was inn Tucson on Sep. 23, on my way back from the Denver show, when I listened on the radio that a fire had erupted at the Executive Inn Hotel, at Drachman with Oracle, but had been already quen ched by the Fire Department; it had damaged the right part of the main bulding, next to the lobby, and the damages were estimated at around $ 100,000.

On my way to the my self-storage unit I drove by the hotel and my brother Carlos took the annexed photos; later, at vening, returning from dinner I drove again by the hotel and all loights were off.

I suppose the hotel shold have fire insurance and may be able to fix everything before the 2011 Show but, as it has struggled to survive, having changng hands about once an year during the several past years, it should be a matter of concern to everybody scheduled to attend to the show there.

That hotel has been in (terminal?) decline for several years, so I'm not surprised that someone tried to burn it down.

The Executive Inn did not burn down, there was a minimal fire that occurred on September 23, 2010 around 3:30 am. It was contained immediately and only affected one of the business offices located on the northwest end of the property. The rooms are all intact.
The hotel is currently going under renovations of the area that was affected but is currently open and will continue to operate as you will see in the following photos the HOTEL is perfectly Fine!Thank you to all the dealers who have signed up in ROOMS and TENTS for the 2011 show and please do not be mislead by false reporting and untrue remarks made by opposing Show Coordinators that are trying to make dealers worry that the hotel will not be open and that it has burned down. These are not facts and are spoken out of context. It has been a long process and we value all of our dealers and consumers that have continually stayed with EIMFS throughout the years as well as our past Dealers, We extend our sincerest apologies for the reasons you have left and would like to invite you to our show in 2011 to make this a successful Venue for ALL!

Steve Sorrell mentioned, today, a hotel that he prepaid a room for that is in foreclosure and is closing in Tucsom. This could be this hotel, let me ask him.

Steve says it is, indeed, the Executive Inn. Apparently it is closed.

According to this website the hotel was taken by their bank at the end of November 2010:

PS: Not sure why but the FMF antispam filter is blocking me including the actual web address thus my writing it out the way I did.

PostPosted: Dec 30, 2010 17:50    Post subject: Re: Fire at the Executive Inn in Tucson

Álvaro Lúcio has a contract with the Executive Inn for his 2nd room, where he sells his less expensive material; after trying to call the hotel sevral times last month, without success, he called another number that was on the contract (a number from Dallas) and was informed that a bank took the hotel and cloded it.

I suggested him to contact Mathias Rheinlander, that is one of the dealers that will depend entirely on that hotel to conduct his sales; Mathias replied Álvaro that they are trying to find an alternative hotel to run the sold.

On Mindat Udo Behner posted a comment, on Dec.20, about this matter.

A bunch of foresaw this collapse 10 years ago when they turfed Marty out...No profit in that prediction though!!! Sorry for the folks who have lost their deposits, but given the managment's business practises, this couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of folks

PostPosted: Dec 31, 2010 04:06    Post subject: Re: Fire at the Executive Inn in Tucson

It's not just a deposit - I had paid in full. I've got alternative accommodation sorted and am trying to work out how to get my money back.

The phone wasn't working but I did get a response by email.

Regards
Steve

Is it not highly likely that the bank, or some other party, will keep the motel open for the show, given the amount of money that can be made at that time? It seems to me a very good bet that it will be open. I hope that I am not wrong.

According to the web site:
https://www.eimfs.com
(link normalized by FMF)

the show has been moved to the Oasis Motel only a few yards away and next to the fossil co-op.

A friend who use to stay at the Oasis Motel once told me that the only residents who were likely to think it an oasis were the small ones with six legs!
