the [manganite] specimen needs some professional cleaning still and maybe some preparation ... |
Roger, A friendly warning. I got a similar specimen a number of years ago, only on mine most of the crystals had their terminations covered by the Baryte. I figured that I could chip away the Baryte to reveal the crystal terminations. However, I soon learned that the Baryte was there first - the manganite crystals had grown into the Baryte and consequently lacked well-formed terminations. So proceed carefully!

Hi Pete,
thanks for the warning. On this specimen quite some perfect manganite terminations are seen peeking out of the baryte and also from the side the terminations under the cover are visible. But i won´t do any preparation and cleaning by myself but show it to an absolute specialist who has done some miracles on other specimens of my collection as well as on other superb specimens from fellow collectors. If he says "no" then only some cleaning will apply and i will leave it as it is ... it is though a quite decent one as it is now,
cheers
Roger

Hi all,
a new classic in my collection. Not the aesthetic killer, but quite a rare one: Staffelite from Steinbach near Hadamar, Hesse. Size is 10.5 x 8 x 4 cm. It comes from the K.S. Freiberger Mineralienniederlage and has a nice late 19th century label. This Staffelite occurrence is approx 10 km away from the "type locality" Staffel.
Cheers
