PostPosted: Mar 26, 2011 05:14    Post subject: Call for Photos - Crystal Days / 1st International Mindat Conference

For the exhibition "Faces of Quartz" we are looking for photos about

- localities (landscape overviews, landscape details, mines, pockets, working conditions, specimen retrieval)

- lapidary art (cutting, trimming, mass-production, etc.)

- industrial quartz production (quartz crystal synthesis)

- exceptional pieces (giant crystals, giant crystal druses)

The exhibition is part of the

"The 1st International Mindat Conference"

that will be held on July 11-17 2011 in Lwówek Śląski, Poland, and the annual open-air festival

"Crystal Days"

that takes place on July 15-17, 2011.

More information can be found here:
https://www.mindatconference.org
https://www.mindatconference.org/crystaldays.php

Reports on the "Crystal Days" event can be found here:

https://www.mindat.org/article.php/999/Lw%C3%B3wek+%C5%9Al%C4%85ski+Crystal+Days+-+More+Photos

The photos have to be in printable quality, so they should be *at least* 1000x1000 pixel in size.
Besides digital photos, slides would be useful, too, and would be photographed or scanned.

The photos will be used for the exhibition only.
The companies name, or the name of the photographer, whatever you prefer, would be shown on the photo.

I am helping the Spirifer Geological Society of Poland, which is responsible for the geoscience part of the festival, to collect phtos.

Same for me. Please feel free to use any photo I downloaded in Mindat -> https://www.mindat.org/user-2700.html#2

On case you need the hi-resolution version, just let me know and I will send it to you.

Jordi

Thanks a lot!
I will dig through the photos :-)

Maybe I should point out that this is not about specimen photos.
Unfortunately, very few people take photos of localities and other interesting places connected to minerals.

Amir

Hi Amir,
i should have some photographs of quartz geodes in situ from the Steinkaulenberg ... they have been printed before so the resolution quality should be sufficient ... will check at the office monday.

cheers
Roger

Steinkaulenberg would be fine, the ones I took a few years ago were done without a tripod - they are still good, but I hope yours are better ;-).

And yes, also agates, chalcedony, etc. etc.

This is an exhibition with both an expert and a non-expert audience:
Attendees of the Mindat Conference and visitiors of the open-air festival.
So it is not primary goal to have an exhibition that will make the experts happy, it is much more an exhibition for the common man. So don't expect a showcase with 50 Breithaupt twins (or even a single one).

The biggest hit would be photos of localities (and everything related to production) that are a main source of specimen typically sold on mineral shows (and even flea markets) and that people already know:
Brazil, Minas Gerais (rock crystal, citrine, "elestials")
Brasil, Rio Grande Do Sul (amethyst, ocos, agate)
Uruguay (amethyst)
U.S.A., Arkansas (rock crystal) - I already got a lot myself
Canada, Thunder Bay (amethyst)
South Africa (tiger's eye, cactus quartz)
Namibia (rose quartz, "Goboboseb stuff")
Madagascar (rose quartz, rock crystal)
Switzerland (smoky quartz)
Mexico (agates, amethyst)

But also things like flint layers in chalk at the English channel coast.

If people pick up the take-home-message "Ahh, that's what it looks like where my crystal comes from", that would be simply great.
It is also much easier to get people interested in mineralogical background information when it has to do with their own crystals.

Amir
