As a collector far away from the USA but highly interested in US minerals, i want to thank all who contribute to the different threads of the "mineralogical trip" through America!

There are many US states who are famous for their great minerals, e.g. Colorado, California, Arizona, Utah or Montana, but also many whose mineralogical treasures aren't that famous in other regions of the world. And thus it is a great pleasure to see that even the "underdogs" of the mineral world like Alabama also have some very nice minerals to offer!

I enjoyed a lot of impressions from the American Mineral Treasures Exhibition in Tucson two years ago, and i was stunned how many places (besides the famous ones) in the USA feature really great minerals.

So please continue with the work on this threads - a very interesting project :-)

Tobias

I have been collecting for over 40 years and 30 of them have been collecting just minerals from the US. I finaly got at least one from each state a couple of years ago. There a still some eastern states to come that do not have a lot in the way minerals either.

That's exactly what i meant: The US states are very different concerning their size and their geological character. Thus i'm very excited to see what is offered when it comes to small states like Rhode Island or Delaware - i can't remember to have seen minerals from there. Or even some of the larger states, e.g. Oklahoma, never seen anything from there ... (Alabama already surprised me).

It's the same in Germany (as in most other countries). We have federal states with famous mining areas, like Bavaria, Saxony or North Rhine-Westphalia, but also the northern states which offer nearly no interesting minerals for collectors due to their geological character.

And concerning the USA, i'm really excited to see the result in the end, when we'll have 50 threads ... :-)

Cheers!

Sorry for the bad photo, but I came across this piece last night, and used the cheap camera with bad lighting. Also, greenish schist is tough to photograph well.

Hello Everyone,

I have a tiny specimen to add to the list today. This is my only Alabama mineral.
