Bentonite is clay rock widely spread all over the world. and I am researching this object for wastewater treatment.
It may be used for flocculation and sorption of suspended substances and also act as a heavy medium effect of sedimentaiton enhancement of floated pollutants from wastewater.
In the forum , who are studying or implementing these mineral materials can join in discussion,

Good afternoon, Hehe
Well, bentonite is used in Spain for water treatement for more than 20 years, that I am aware.
It is used to adsorb, absorb and to help floculation, along with other products.
But I think that it is a thing that apart from chemists that like this field, could be found as terribly boring for the rest of list members (I think to hear the chore of yawns.....)
If you would like to talk about that, I gladly will share what I know with you via pm (unless some members would like to hear about waste water treatement.... A really not exactly charming field .... :-) )
With best wishes

Completely off-topic here, but some members might find it amusing:
A long time ago, someone writing about bentonite in Texas, accidentally mis-spelled it "Benitoite" -- a somewhat more desirable mineral for collectors :))
This was picked up by the author of a mineral book for collectors and, for decades thereafter, mineral books uncritically recopied that, listing Texas as a benitoite locality!
(The Owithe valley in Belgium was another erroneously reported benitoite locality that got uncritically regurgitated in later literature.)
When people disparage online databases, like Mindat, for any errors present, I like to point out these examples... rapidly corrected on the online databases, but embarrassingly eternally present and uncorrectable in paper references. |

Hi, Alfredo
As always, a very interesting anecdote...
Certainly, I wish that all bentonite I have seen were nice benitoite crystals.... :-)
Waawwww! 10 tones benitoite!
With best wishes

Hi, I think that,
Bentonite is clay rock widely spread all over the world, and Bentonite was proved to be an efficient agent and sorption of suspended substances and also as a heavy medium with effect of sedimentation enhancement of floated pollutants from wastewaters.
The best effect was exhibited in case of wastewaters loaded with high content of insoluble substances, the purification effect being often higher than 90% ( in term of chemical oxygen demand value).
Bentonite show good sorption ability for ammonia and ammonium ions.

HI,
the degree of the sorption effect denpends strongly on the chemical and mechanical treatment bentonite. |

HI Mr. Lluís
Quarrying is the most frequently applied method, the raw bentonite after exploited , it need to be upgraded.
How do you treat bentonte ?, I mean that, to enhance its specific properties, bentonite is often activated by mean of different methods.
Which the method did you handle the bentonite /?
With best wishes

Effectively this topic is going completely off-topic . As vxq can't send PM yet because is new here, please Lluís send to him a PM (vxq can answer the PM sent to him) and then you can share emails an discuss about Bentonite directly.
Thank you. |
