Dear Princess:
Many thanks for your encouraging words! I bought a large consignment locally, and I have many boxes to open. As each box is opened, I will photograph the specimen. I am trying to photograph each mineral with the stand I make for it, but I am falling behind. I will post a few more minerals in the next day or so, but I have about 300 to catalog, curate and build stands for so this is a long-term project. I am hoping in the next few days to post the procedure for making inexpensive, yet professional looking acrylic stands, along with a few tricks one can perform with acrylic.
Kind Regards
LF

The specimen is a variety of Hematite called Kidney Ore. It consists of interlocking botryoids and has a beautiful luster and a pleasing brownish red hue.
Also included are photos of the homemade stand and label. The stand is simply an acrylic block with clear rubber feet. To secure the piece I use a small piece of the “anti-slip” rubber.

The specimen comprises multiple clear crystals of Cerussite on fine-grained hematite. There are associated Baryte blades and the matrix is limonite. Also included are photos of the homemade stand and label. The stand consists of an acrylic block with anti-slip rubber mat and four clear rubber feet.

VANADINITE ON BARYTE
The specimen comprises hundreds of Vanadinite crystals on a Baryte matrix. The Vanadinite crystals range in size from about 1mm to just over 12mm, and the colour ranges from orange in the small crystals to deep red in the larger ones.
Also included are photos of the homemade stand and label. The stand comprises two back supports and a front support. With lighter specimens (<1kg) the back supports shown in the photo are sufficient. With heavier specimens, I use the triangular shaped supports as seen earlier with the large magnetite specimen posted a few days ago.

Nice collection. I like the red colour of the vanadinite very much!

Dear Mark:
Many thanks for your kind words. I will be posting a few more Vanadinites in the coming days. The red colour is very attractive, and Vanadinite appeals to many collectors. Regrettably, the true beauty of all the specimens I have posted is lost because my poor photography, but I am working on an idea that should help me improve my photos. This might be another DIY job like the Acrylic stands I make.
Regards
LF

VANADINITE
This piece is a gorgeous bright red sparkling grouping of tabular vanadinite crystals to 1.5 cm in size. It also hosts individual deep red vanadinite crystals to 1cm. In the right-hand section of the specimen, there is a small vug full of blood red translucent crystals.
Also included is a photo of the homemade stand with attached label.

Dear Yowanni:
Thank you very much for your kind words. I have a few more vanadinites to post, but the one above is the most unusual. I noted you are from Cantabria/Madrid – “hola.” Being that close to Morocco I would probably would spend all my time collecting Vanadinite. :)
Kind Regards
LF

Dear Louis,
I visited Morocco in August 2003. I spent 4 days in Mibladem and one day more in Taouz.
Perhaps, I could look for the photographs and post a few of them in the forum.
Kind regards,
Jonathan

Common mineral from a common locality - but a really uncommon and spectacular specimen, wow!

Dear Jonathan:
Please post whatever photos you have of the ACF Mine area Vanadinite workings. I along with many others would be keen to see them. In addition to the minerals, I am also keen on getting some good locality photos of all the deposits my “rocks” come from. So many thanks for the information.
Kind Regards
LF

MALACHITE (POLISHED)
This piece is a gorgeous green botryoidal mass of polished malachite. I am becoming very fond of the secondary copper minerals, especially Malachite and Azurite. Also included are photos of the homemade stand with attached label.
