PostPosted: Nov 14, 2012 15:07    Post subject: Parahopeite? Specimen

I purchased this specimen at a mineral show, where I had no references to confirm the ID. It does not appear to match the online descriptions and images of parahopeite that I have found. Are the drusy crystals that cover most of the matrix actually parahopeite? Parahopeite is supposed to be colorless, though I suppose the reddish-brown coloration of this specimen could be due to some inclusion or underlying mineral.

It could be Hopeite and/or Parahopeite, without a proper analysis is almost impossible to know it. Anyway, the specimen looks as a "Hopeite/Parahopeite" type...

I agree with Jordi. It will probably take an analysis to determine what it is. Colorwise it looks more like hopeite but the luster and translucency is better than any hopeites I have seen. The parahopeite from Rhodesia can be white to slightly lime green in color as well.
