Hello,
Welcome to Benjamin, a radioactive minerals lover...
Here is a nice group of radioactive minerals of Katanga. This is an association with an exceptional quality of billietite, studtite and uranophane. These uranyl minerals come from Shinkolobwe (Katanga - DRC).
Roger.

Hi, Roger, Benj, et al.,
Thanks for sharing the pictures. If I may, just a suggestion? For those of us who'd like to look at them but may not be 100% familiar with all uranium minerals--it would be extra helpful for your captions to clarify which mineral is which. Especially for these, because there are so many of these minerals in similar colors of yellow and green! For example, I THINK the studtite is the large orange crystals, but I'm not completely certain. It will save us from jumping back & forth to mindat to compare colors and crystal habits with the photos!
Thanks and best regards,
Pete

Hello Pete,

-Zeunerite = green
-Tyrolite (no radioactive) = blue.

-Uranophane = yellow.
-Mixite = blue

A few Canadian representatives. The thorite went in prematurely (Kemp Prospect is near Cheddar, Ontario, Canada and the thorite is 4 cm. across.)

Fantastic Silver Crater betafite, John! Have you ever seen twinned zircon from there?

I haven't found any twinned zircons from there, Ru, but have not spent much time in the zircon-rich area which is somewhat harder rock in general.

Yes Pete, we got a bit irradiated ourselves on that dig! The Grenville rocks around Bancroft have a reputation for producing large, ugly crystals in general. I'll add another photo to illustrate that some pretty crystals are there also. (plus another photo and a bit of trivia).

Nice and very interesting photo John !

Here the uraninite (petchblend), kindly donated by a former geologist engineer of CEA (french Atomic Energy Agency) and BRGM (french agency of géological and mining research).

He found in 1956.

Attention : do not put it under his pillow ! LOL.
