Hello Pierre,
Thank you for your question. As a general rule I don't like to do anything to my mineral specimens that are either distracting or require soaking in water or solvent later to dissolve off an adhesive or mineral tack, Obviously I don't want to do anything detrimental. What I use are small 10 to 30 ml polyethylene bottles that I cut through transversely with a four inch saw. These bottles are not crystal clear but I feel are soft and "give" a little. They are not rigid like the clear plastic rings. I then mount the sections onto an acrylic square base or in this particular instance two acrylic square bases. I use as much plastic sheet material as needed for cushioning and proper elevation under the specimen. I believe that the less you handle these pieces the better. I did not start a new thread because 1) I don't know how and 2) I don't wish to rile Antonio and Jordi ( and Carles) 8-).
Sincerely,
Don _________________ hogwild |

Thank you for that tips Don! I agree with you, 'we get far more out of this forum than we put in'. _________________ Pierre Joubert
