Lovely linarite. Staying with a blue theme, a Florence fluorite

Very beautiful specimen, Ian.
This one is less perfect (there's a contact against a baryte crystal, now removed), but has great colour.

Mine used to be bigger Ru, but I had it professionally trimmed by a friend with huge experiencea few years ago. I now do my own work on specimens.
Here are a couple of barytes, the first one was trimmed by my friend at the same time as the fluorite.
Description: |
Baryte Frizington, Cumbria, England, UK Baryte crystals, typically 5cm, selectively coloured red by included hematite. From an unlocated iron mine in the Frizington area. Specimen 14x12 cm |

Description: |
Nicely zoned baryte, largest crystal 6cm. Purchased Munich 1988.
Ex E Mitchell Gunnell collection no 153. Rear of the Gunnell label notes that the specimen was "purchased on June 27 1953, from D. O. Thorpe who, with partner, had purchased the John Rohner Collection, Idaho Springs, Colorado, from George Van Der Vere, curio store owner" and gives the "pro-rata cost, as $5". Prices have drifted upward since! |

I completely agree. I particularly love the golden barytes.
How do you trim these fragile specimens, Ian?

Pretty much every one uses the same tools Ru. Combinations of saw, air scribes and and air abrasives.
A nice quartz from the west Cumbrian iron mines
Description: |
Quartz Egremont, Cumbria, England, Uk Smoky quartz crystals to 35mm on dolomite and specular hematite.
From an unlocated west Cumbria iron mine, but an almost unreadable part label on the rear shows what appears to be Egremont and then certainly Cle... of Cleator Moor. Association typical of specimens from Egremont's Florence-Beckermet Mine. |

Fine specimen, Ian. This one is my favourite quartz from that area.

I agree with you about the origin, Roger. Something historically fascinating about specimens from this area. Florence Mine is still looking good!

I have a similar baryte from Parkside Ru. I picked up three a few years ago at the Freiberg show, all with nice old Freiberg Mining Academy Mineral Dealership labels. Will try and get pictures of the one that I kept when I get back home later this month once the mining season finishes.
In the meanwhile, here are a couple more Pallaflat calcites.

Fluorite and Calcite from the Rotherhope Fell Mine, Alston Moor. Specimen is from flats discovered in the Tynebottom Limestone, 1929-1930. Many of the specimens from this find were acquired by Arthur Russell and are now with his collection in the Natural History Museum, London.
