Here are a few nice agates from the Keweenaw; examples of what make Lake Superior agates so special.

Calcite crystals from the Lake Superior Copper District are wonderful- especially
when they contain copper inclusions. These specimens are stunning.

The museum has over 1,000 specimens from the collection of Professor Arthur Edmund Seaman. This stephanite is one of the best specimens in his collection.

Good job.

Thank you Jordi.
I hope to post more photos as time permits.
Chris Stefano is now getting settled as the new associate curator; George Robinson and Gene LaBerge just published through the museum a new book on the iron minerals of the Lake Superior district. Good things are still happening.

Here is Dr. Christopher Stefano in front of a large sheet of native copper from the White Pine Mine, Ontonagon Co., MI at the entrance to the Schafner Hall, A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum.

I fully agree with John White in his words of George and Sue Robinson!
Besides, I LOVE that Shigaite although image is not Scovil or Elliott quality!

Peter- do you mean the specimen of shigaite with pink seamanite? I have some better close up images. The one posted was just to show some quick highlights of what you can see in the new exhibit case.

Peter,
There is a close up photo of the seamanite crystal spray on page 1 of this thread -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/files/seamanite_bemgal_mine_jaj_417.jpg
You can see the crystals nicely, and may be able to make out the shigaite crystals right behind the seamanite. A close up of one of the shigaite crystals is on page 2 of this thread -> https://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/files/shigaite_sm7_dm27928_103.jpg
Cheers
John

This lovely group of pyrite crystals has excellent luster. The specimen is from the Merelani tanzanite deposit, Tanzania. It was acquired by then curator George Robinson from Simon Harrison in 2013.

Cool topic, John.

Since you are probably the authority on the area, who better to ask (in a topic that hasn't been posted in in almost a year no less) what would be some good books on geology for the UP? Particularly the western UP. (Gogebic, Iron, Ontonagon, Houghton, Keweenaw counties: my home turf mostly)
